About the event
Every month we choose a piece of art, literature, music, film, etc. from any genre or medium and talk about it. Topics range from practical, such as the materials and techniques used, to the subjective, like how it makes us feel or what the artist may have been saying. Participants are encouraged to view and read up a little on the piece ahead of time, but it's not a requirement for participation. Selections will be posted ahead of time to facilitate this, and participants are welcomed to suggest a piece for future discussions at the end of each meeting. Please RSVP to receive meeting link and event updates!
On August 21st we will be taking a look at the St. Crispian's Day speech from Shakespeare's Henry V, (Act 4, Scene 3)
Full Text: Read It
Video of the always fabulous Kenneth Branaugh delivering the speech: Watch It
Potential discussion points:
What promises does Henry make to his men?
What values does he appeal to?
How are these same tactics used today?
Does Henry believe his own speech?
What other famous pre-battle speeches (in history or pop culture) use similar tactics? How do they differ?
What famous line do you recognize from this speech?
What lines resonate with you? Which ones annoy you?
How does the speech make you feel?
